Read Chris Woolston, M.S. Thoughts:

“In simple lines the psychiatrist David Burns MD: people who remain depressed all the time will become the master of illusion in near future. The way they handle daily life with a pessimistic approach and unconscious traps of mind would convert your triumphs into setbacks. In the end, these setbacks converted into personal failings.

People who remain depressed mostly would become successful in their lives. But if you are continuously thinking negatively about yourself and your future then this distorts your view of the world. Your opinion about everything changing from positive to negative or hopeless.”

2: Don't Believe On Ruminations

3: Find out Evidence before Accepting Any Thoughts

4: Learn Neutrality & Impermanence

5: Focus on Mindfulness

1: Check Your Observation about Negative Thoughts

If your brain focuses on negative aspects every time then you should not react immediately to happening. The main point is here to take a long breath, take some moment to find the main cause of that event. You will see that negative aspects become disappear after some time.

 2: Don't Believe On Ruminations

Thinking too much about every event of life may lead you to ruminations. These ruminations are mostly baseless and the result is having a mind full of negativity. The thing you can do to change your way of thinking with this simple practice.

First, take one piece of paper and draw 2 columns on it. First column handing as “Thoughts” and the second column heading “Solutions”.

Now fill out this piece of paper when rumination thoughts come in your mind and come note the time. And write something in the solution column that comes to your mind.

Now after one week or one month check how many times that rumination comes into your mind. Now conclude whether there is anything of value or not. If there is no value in that rumination then read again the first habit.

3: Find out Evidence before Accepting Any Thoughts

Other habits to arrange your thoughts with the help of proper evidence analysis. The same practice will prove to be fruitful as mentioned in #2.

Suppose you are always thinking about having less money as compared to others. Write 2 columns on the paper with the first column of “Net Income” and the second column “Expenses”. Now fill out all your income in all bank accounts and saving you have. And list out all the expenses like shelter, food, clothing, etc.

Now this time you can analyze your paper's evidence deeply and honestly. Have you enough money or not. If you do not have enough money then what step you should take to increase your income. And if you have enough amount of money then the fact is that you are overthinking about money.

4: Learn Neutrality & Impermanence

We talk about this in the introduction step of this article but there is a need to repeat the same argument again and again. That these negative thoughts are temporary with no link to reality.

These thoughts would come into your mind many times a day. But the point is that you when you leave that negative thought and focus of on work. If that thought remains to attract a long time then the destruction of your mind starts.

5: Focus on Mindfulness

On the mindfulness topic, we are going to discuss the finding of three-time champion Christopher Bergland. The scientist Bergland divides the mindfulness concept into three basic steps “Stop Thinking, Long Breath, Think what you are thinking now. This is the simple technique to find out whether you are working with proper focus or not”.

If someone requires some extra good level of training regarding mindfulness then there are many meditation strategies. Such as MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction) technique available who are looking for some formal training.

 Conclusion:

A simple conclusion is that negative thoughts must be converted into positive thoughts. Because living with negative thoughts will distract you from your line every time. Setup daily challenges for yourself so that your mind will not have enough space for negative thinking.

The Buddha once conclude: “Your worst enemy can't harm you as much as your own unguarded or negative thoughts”
